This is the fourth book of the Divine Dungeon series, and to be honest, there were parts of the audiobook that lost me.  The big battle at the end of the book that was supposed to be epic, ended up just being confusing.  I definitely lost the plot in parts of the story.  However, I still really like the characters, the humor, and the world building, so I will definitely finish up the series.  The magic system works similar to many other LitRPG, progression fantasy, or cultivation novels.  All things produce essence, and then beings "cultivate" by pulling in the essence (that matches their affinity) into themselves.  An earth cultivator would pull earth essence, etc.  I tried to read a straight cultivation novel once, and it lost me.  That's one of the reasons I really appreciated the balance of humor and action from this series.

Progression fantasy faces its biggest nemesis, power creep and still trying to stay grounded.

I loved the first three books, but Dungeon Desolation is a disappointment. The storytelling is sacrificed in favor of a new end goal: transitioning into the Ritualist series. Most disappointing of all is the treatment of the female characters, especially Dani who goes into full shrill housewife mode.

A rushed finished. Lot's of quick fixes to close plot holes. But the series had an end so I'm happy.
