Sometimes I wanted to stop reading and I felt uncomfortable and sad. The strength of the writing was impressive and kept me hooked into characters that were complicated.

i didn't get very far into the book. while it seemed like following whatever revelation Seamus needed to not be a jerk could be interesting, i just didn't enjoy the way Taylor writes. i started reading the book because Sam Sanders, one of my fav podcast hosts recommended it, but i guess he ans i have different taste in books.

I would have given this less Stars if it weren't for the beautiful writing. But, like the characters in the book who are excellent artists with little depth, the writing is aesthetically dense and pleasing but disappointing in its surface level treatment of a thin if barely there plot. Plus, it was very hard to follow along as they weren't very distinct. They all got muddled by the end.

Honestly there was some nice writing here and I will definitely be reading this author’s backlog but when you have a collection of characters that are so similar they blur into one and you have to double and triple check who’s supposed to be in love with who and sleeping with who, it’s a miss for me.
