The sort of space opera that mainly exists to show how cool and otherworldly it is, which is a good project for a novella, just enough time to get the hang of a universe, not enough that you need to expect much more development. The prose is mostly pretty, though a lot of the in-universe terms sound more like they come from the conversation of your earnest polyamorous friend than a mysterious alien culture. There's almost no plot (and the Little Mermaid throughline could be dropped entirely without much effecting the story), just a questy reason to go look at the cool space scenery, and the main characters are pretty forgettable, but as a piece it's mostly well executed. A hundred pages of vibes.
