tells the story of a boy jack that learns how to communicate feelings through writing and starts to become confident in his writing and in himself. cheesy to say but this book changed my life. i want to meet my reading goal and so i went through my bookshelf looking for small books. when i saw this i was reminded by how much i love this story and wanted to reread it right away. i haven’t read it since grade school and it still holds up.

Wow. Powerful. Think this will be my read aloud for the introduction to poetry.

love that sharon creech. she's the best. ❤️
it's about a boy who writes poetry, loves a dog, and discovers that maybe he has some good-enough words after all. there's brownies, too, and Robert Frost. like I said. sharon creech. love her.

Told in poem format. It made me cry (just a bit). Very short. I read it in 15 minutes.

Recommended for boys and girls and aspiring writers.

Great use of a different narrative structure! Loved this book from a boy student's perspective on poetry in the classroom and his dog. Just very clever and relatable. Would recommend for upper elementary and middle school.
