Glad to have read another Gaiman novel I enjoyed! Still trudging through American Gods, but this one was up there with Anansi Boys for me.

This is a re-read but it's been long enough that I am essentially revisiting London Below for the first time. I love the worlds that Gaiman builds, worlds that I feel I could stumble into myself. This is a dark, funny, weird, magical piece of literature full of memorable characters. And there's a possibility for a sequel!

I loved the concept and having lived in London the references were really creative. It was fun seeing what Gaiman would introduce next in his incredibly imaginative world. Overall I just didn't love the execution - the characters felt shallow and Richard was a Gary Stu. So many interesting backstories to be explored but the story focused much more on the plot progression instead. I had to really force myself through some parts. The ending was contrived but the extra on the Marquis getting his coat back was fun.

My second (aborted) attempt at Gaiman this year. The comics will always hold a place in my heart, but otherwise...I guess I’m just not a Gaiman person?

This is a tough one to review. While I appreciated the fantastical world that Gaiman created, I found that I didn't really care all that much what happened to the characters, and therefore it took a lot longer to read that I would have thought. I am interested in reading more Gaiman books, though. He has a style that I like and I oould imagine enjoying his writing in other contexts.
