I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is the 2nd one in the series and I would highly recommend reading the first one prior to. This series is very interconnected as we are following the same characters and getting to see the journey as Rory is adjusting and making her way through Bloodstone Academy and the Fearmancers. In this installment, we get to see her realizes her potential is very high as she is strong in all four arts which is unheard of for a very long time. It just adds pressure for her as she doesn't agree with scaring and terrifying people in order to gain magic/power. As people are naturally more afraid of her now that they have learned that she is powerful and has that capability in all four it is a little easier for her to build power without having to purposefully scare people. She is still dealing with the other 4 scions and the bullying tactics they are using but she refuses to back down. She is determined to figure out a way to survive and thrive but also staying true to her principles that her Joymancer adoptive parents raised her with. She is planning to take down Villain Academy and determined to change things. In this one, Declan is giving her material that throws into question some of the Joymancer's actions and she doesn't agree with that either but based on how she was raised it doesn't entirely line up and make sense. I loved how strong Rory was and that she is willing to stick to her principals and how she was raised regardless of how difficult that is making things for her right now. That strength is showing others that maybe things don't need to stay exactly as they are and is changing some of the Scions as well as they seem to appreciate her fire. Malcolm is still determined to break her but he also likes the fire but refuses to give in. This was well written and we get to see more of Rory continuing to grow and dig into what is going on around her. She is battling with Malcolm and the Scions and in this one we get to see one of them break off and want to turn over a different leaf with her. There is a big twist at the end  of this one and it will be very interesting to see how things play out in the next books.
The narrators did a great job with the story and characters as well, really bringing out the different personalities and actions/emotions.

Still enjoying

This is book 2 and I’m still really enjoying this series. Rory is getting stronger and she’s still mostly on her own. The guys are slowly getting better.

Enquanto a protagonista busca se afirmar depois de ter sua vida virada de cabeça pra baixo, novos conflitos e novas perdas afetam seu caminho. É uma narrativa interessante, para quem gosta de fantasia.

Another glimpse into the fearmancers

I found this to be another exploration into this world, I'm curious to see if Rory will be able to unravel all the puzzles and understand the people and world around her before it consumes her.
