Η Clare Pooley έχει βρει τη συνταγή για να γράφει βιβλία που σου ζεσταίνουν την ψυχή. Και το βασικό συστατικό είναι το compassion.

Το compassion που σε καμία περίπτωση δεν πρέπει να μπερδέψουμε με οίκτο, και ίσως μπορούμε να το μεταφράσουμε ως συμπόνοια, είναι το συναίσθημα του να συνειδητοποιείς τον πόνο του άλλου και να εύχεσαι για να απαλυνθεί.

Είναι ένα συναίσθημα που αν φέρουμε πιο συχνά στη ζωή μας ίσως μας κάνει πιο μαλακά και διαθέσιμα. Και τα βιβλία της Clare Pooley είναι το καλύτερο workbook.

Έτσι και οι χαρακτήρες στο «Οι επιβάτες της αποβάθρας 5» ξεδιπλώνουν σιγά σιγά τις προσωπικότητες και τις περιπέτειές τους και δεν είναι απλά συμπαθητικοί, αλλά πραγματικά εύχεσαι όλα να τους πάνε καλά!

Ξεκινώντας το βιβλίο φοβήθηκα μην είναι πολύ ίδιο με το «Πράσινο σημειωματάριο», αλλά πολύ γρήγορα βρήκε το δικό του ρυθμό και με καθησύχασε.

Το «Οι επιβάτες της αποβάθρας 5» λειτούργησε για εμένα σαν μια κλασσική cozy χολυγουντιανή ταινία (βλέπε you’ve got mail) που θέλω να τη βλέπω ξανά και ξανά, χωρίς τα στοιχεία που την κάνουν guilty pleasure. Δηλαδή χωρίς τα ρομάντζα που γέρασαν άσχημα (σε μια post me too era) και χωρίς το εγκώμιο στον καπιταλισμό.

Όποτε την επόμενη φορά που θα έχω αυτό το craving σίγουρα θα προτιμήσω να ξαναδιαβάσω αυτό το βιβλίο.

I have to start this review by confessing I almost DNF'ed "The Authencity Project". I found the characters to be unbelievable and some downright detestable. Story was disjointed.
The premise of "Iona Iverson's Rules for Commuting" caught my eye, and I am so glad I gave the author a second chance. I loved the many characters, especially quirky Iona. This is such a sweet feel good story.

I love a good story with found family, and this one has it in spades. Light, quirky, and outright funny in places, this novel leaves you with a warm, fuzzy feeling, even if your heart breaks a little by moments.

Clever idea for a story, and I enjoyed how the main character, Iona, brought together a diverse group of people who regularly commuted together on the train. Then about half way through I found myself getting bored. The characters and the plot fizzled into cliches normally found in a Nicholas Sparks novel. So disappointing.

Once I picked it up I couldn’t put it down! This book has a large cast of characters all of which I love soooo much and surprised me a ton when my initial first impressions of some of them were wrong! I’m so glad this was my first read of 2023!
