A beautiful adventure! Compelling characters, surprising mystery and explosive chemistry. Poppy Summers is an ideal heroine. She is unbelievably strong, self-sufficient and compassionate. She not only stands on her own two feet but singlehandedly supports her family all with a smile. It is no wonder Keane is so quickly drawn to her. His firm and undeniable believe in them is such a strong point, it melts your heart. Nothing can turn him from securing his future. Indeed, the way they bring out the best in each other is an absolute delight. Keane is unbearably sweet and tender in his affections. Aside from the fiery romance, the mystery of this story keeps you in the edge of your seat and truly is unpredictable. This story is an entertaining page-turner, with many endearing moments of support. The supporting cast is as as delightful as the MC’s. A definite must read!

This book started out in a high note; a Duke washed ashore, found by a fisherwoman?! Totally new concept, but midway through I just found myself disconnected from the characters. I think it’s that I just couldn’t quite believe that these two would end up together, so everything felt a bit forced from the midpoint on. It definitely has the sweetness factor and the not knowing who would want Keane dead kept me interested, but once that source is revealed, I just could t stay engaged. I think I might e liked this better if not in audio, so I’ll try another Anna Bennett that way next time.

I really wanted to love this because the blurb made it seem so good, but it just didn't live up to the hype for me. Too much angst, not enough romance. Not enough relationship building or getting to know the characters. Its all just struggling and trying to figure out who hurt the duke. If I wanted a mystery, I'd choose one, not a romance. Also, I'm sorry, but the sea-related analogies get super annoying and corny. Every sentence doesn't have to relate to the ocean, mermaids, pirates, fish, etc. It almost reads like a DIsney fairytale for kids... but with spicy scenes randomly thrown in. It was just a no for me... sorry. Thanks for the opportunity to try though.

One Duke Down – Anna Bennett

Poppy has worked hard for her life. While her brother is away trying to make money for the family. She takes care of her ailing father and keeping the family business afloat. When she comes across a stranger claiming to be a Duke in need of help. Duke of Hawking; Andrew must find out who is attempting to kill him. With the help of his Valet and the beautiful Poppy, he is close to figuring out who is behind the attack. It doesn’t help that his mind is distracted where Poppy is concerned… can they accomplish their mission?

This is a second book in the series Rogues to Lovers #2. I haven’t read the first one yet but this book can also be a standalone. I really liked Poppy’s character; she is strong, realistic and driven. There was an instant attraction from the start but it doesn’t help that they come from two different worlds which is majority of the conflict. I really enjoyed seeing Andrew attempting to spoil Poppy with everything she desires to cut through her icy barrier. While this is mostly a romance, there was some action and intrigue near the end.

Hope you enjoy this book!

I’m sorry, but this book was basically boring. I really liked the characters so it is with zero relish that I give this book two stars, but seriously, this book could have ended so many times and I wouldn’t have felt I missed anything. Because I did force myself to finish it, waiting for something—ANYTHING—to happen, but it didn’t.

And the sex? IS NOT SPICY, PEOPLE. There is ONE scene that is kind of spicy and the rest are either super vague, super short, or closed door. And with them getting frisky so early on, you’d think there would be something there to talk about, but nope, it just sailed along with the boring. I should have trusted my instincts and DNFed at the halfway point.

The mystery surrounding Keane and the fun interactions between him and Poppy drew me in right from the start.

Miss Poppy Summers has caught something bigger than a fish this time. The man she rescued claims to be a duke, but Poppy has a hard time believing him. Someone wants him dead and Poppy agrees to shelter him. She also agrees to help him look for his assailant. In Poppy’s world, Keane discovers a whole new side to himself. Poppy herself blooms under his attention and soon she might have to make some difficult choices.

Poppy surprised me. For a young woman raised fairly sheltered in a small town, she sure didn’t hesitate to grab her adventure with both hands. Keane was quiet and unassuming, and he didn’t trust a lot of people. When he got closer to discovering the truth about his attack, he opted to protect Poppy’s choices rather than get his revenge outright.

The identity of Keane’s attacker was cleverly kept in the dark. But once the mystery started unraveling, the shocking revelations just kept coming. I liked that there was more story after Poppy and Keane declared their love for each other. That way we got to see more of them together.

This was a quick read, sweet, and Poppy and Keane both had their worlds expanded beyond their expectations. I can recommend this to anyone who likes steamy historical romance with action. Though it’s part of a series, it stands well on its own.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy. All thought and opinions are my own.

This was a "meh" Regency romance. And, we ALLLLL know how much I adore Regency romance. But TBH, the last 50 pages tainted the swooniness of this book.
