i dont love the teacher x student trope so im not surprised i didnt love this, but i read vicious & was curious about their story! i ended up not liking mel’s character and the plot i know this is a novella but there was still a little one was just so ... bad. i did find the little glimpses of vicious & millie fun, especially after having read their book. obviously will continue the series!

After having her dreams shattered Melody takes a job teaching a bunch of privileged spoiled kids. This isn't what she wants to do but she has no choice and is going with the flow. I really liked Melody because she was sassy and didn't play by high society's rules and expectations.

Jaime is one of the HotHoles but he's more reserved. People think they have him all figured out but he's not what everyone thinks he is. There's a lot more when it comes to Jaime and he has a huge caring heart. I loved the stand up guy Jaime became as the story unfolds.

“And you feel like a woman worthy of a fight, Ms. Greene.”

“Because I think about you before I think about myself. Always remember that, Little Ballerina. Always.”

I loved the how you could feel the sexual tension oozing off the pages between Melody and Jaime. Their connection and banter eventually developed as the story progressed and it was everything!! This isn't just an insta love story. You get invested and fall in love with the characters and despite the fact that their relationship is forbidden, you can't help but want them to defy all odds and be together.

At first I wasn't sure if I would like the book because it was billed as an insta lust/love type book but it was so well done!! Shen has such a way with words. This is the second book that I've read by her and I was completely sucked in and couldn't stop until I was finished with the book. This series has become one of my favorites and I can't wait for Ruckus.

Well that was kind of weird.
I know student teacher romances can be, but this is the first one I’ve read, and I wasn’t impressed.

I also just didn’t like Jaime whatsoever. A cocky jock that gets everything he wants just makes me instantly dislike him, and Melody was just flat.

Not that interesting overall.

⭐️3.5 (I didn’t like it very much at first but when hitting 50% mark I changed my mind lol) Jamie is sick but hot as hell. He is a simp for Melody. Who has been obsessed with her since the first day of senior year and the obsession only grows as his mother keeps shitting on Melody. He stalked her and staged their first event to give them a reason to do something outside their forbidden teacher student relationship. This is a short prequel that we’ll executed the forbidden concept and the preview on Vicious but I think it can do better on introducing the whole squad. Overall I enjoy the read

Dear Lord...L.J. Shen can write some smut. The best kind, it makes you laugh, it makes you feel, and it makes you need a cold shower. Defy is the prequel to Vicious...which shouldn't be passed up either. However this book is a novella, so it's on the short side, which if you have read any books by L.J. Shen, you will know...IT'S NOT ENOUGH!! Gahhh, I needed more Melody and Jamie. Melody is a English Lit teacher at an exclusive prep school in Todos Santos, an exclusive rich ass community. Jamie, is her 18 year old student. What happens is not illegal, but forbidden.
This book is told entirely in Melody's point of view, would have been nice to have Jamie's as well, but lord that Mel is a hoot. I don't think I can talk this author up enough, I want everyone to read her books and enjoy them as much as I do!
