In a series of so many books, I expect the middle to be both dramatic and climactic. Age of War delivers.

Every character arc (and there are many of them) drives this installment further forward and deeper into my heart. This is dangerous, for as the title states, war has arrived, and in war, not all come out to the other side unscathed.
My heart shattered alongside our mystic Sure as she is once again called on to do the unthinkable.

Of great interest is some backstory to the lore of Sullivan's Ryeria Revelations and Ryeria Chronicles, particularly the Fhrey/Rhune (Nyphron/Persophone) relationship. I recommend reading all of Ryeria first, though neither series spoils one or the other.

I could do without one or two romantic arcs. Sullivan seems to think almost everyone deserves a pairing or hopes these arcs add to the feelings we all want to feel when immersed in tales of trials and triumphs. There is plenty of feeling in Age of War without the added romances.

Still, the romantic arcs are not distracting enough to reduce the overall rating: ★★★★★.
