A nicely drawn, pretty well written batman story. I'm not totally clear on the story but I had fun with it.

Saw Goodreads recommend this to me and remembered i have read this as well , it was one of the first works of Scott Snyder that i had come across. The Comics was based on the pre-Flashpoint era ..( you know , when even the non batman DC comics were good ) . It was the time of Dick Grayson as batman working with Tim Drake as Red Robin and others such as Damian Fucking Wayne (ugh!) to figure out the identity of a new terrorist who is bombing the iconic structures of Gotham while still comparing himself to Bruce Wayne's legacy as batman and trying to live up to it .
It was a fun comics (and sometimes that's all the criteria that i need for a comics) and as per me 9 out of 10 Batman fans will like it . The problem as per me was that although it had all the elements of Batman comics neither the Detective parts were properly or thoroughly explained and nor was the Action part , in fact there's barely any action in it except for a few pages in the last part .
Anyways definite recommendation to all DC and Batman fans who don't cringe at when apart from Bruce Wayne wears the cape and cowl

I actually very much enjoyed this story. Short, concise and very interesting. Plus, Dick as Batman is often a fun time.

Good book. Plotted by Snyder and more written by Higgins (I think Higgins' first book that was more than just a one-shot, and now current writer of the Nightwing series).
Decent, but could have been better. A lot of history, and very much a hint at what Snyder will do a few months(at the time of the initial writing of the book) later with his Court of Owls in Batman.

I really liked what Snyder did with telling the story of Gotham's history and the "first families of Gotham." However, I wasn't as crazy about Dick as Batman. I'm willing to concede that probably comes in large part from reading this outside of the context of what else was going on in the Batman universe in 2011. Also, Damian Wayne is always annoying.
What I probably enjoyed the most was actually the Nightrunner (Batman of Paris) story at the end. Given that he is a Sunni Muslim Parisian it seems particularly relevant right now. All in all, not a bad choice for the 100th graphic novel I log on GoodReads.

This is pretty much amazing. This story calls back to the origins of Gotham with a conspiracy set to destroy the city itself. This is only a Scott Snyder co-production, but that's not a bad thing. I read this as a primordial version of his absolutely brilliant Court of Owls run on Batman. There is more to Gotham than meets the eye, and it's going to try to kill Batman.
