What an amazing book. I was captivated by the story from the beginning. You get the point of view of several characters, and Wendig adapted his style of writing to the character he was writing about. Matthew's character arc especially was really interesting. 

The book was written before the Covid pandemic but Wendig predicted pretty well how society reacts to a deadly disease. That made for an extra interesting read.

I want to start out with, “This is a very good book.”, because that is what I want to be the main point of this review. That said, this is a brutal book, particularly when read in the current day U.S. of 2023. Be prepared for that, if that applies to you. I think a lot of that has to do with timing of when I read it, in the wake of everything that has happened & is still happening in this world since this book was published. If this was not such a well-written book, I don’t know if I could’ve stuck with it to the end. I wish I had a little more distance from the real world to have been able to enjoy the experience of this book more thoroughly. I definitely plan on following up with Wayward but I need a bit of a break for my own sanity.
