I enjoyed a few of the stories and I really liked the way each story was connected to each other, but unfortunately this just wasn’t super memorable

A heartfelt collection of interconnected short stories about small-town teenagers in 90's north-west USA.

The writing style was really enjoyable, a perfect level of showing over telling, and the characters felt so real and true to the diverse range of teenage experiences showcased.

I can already tell I'll be thinking about some of these characters for a long while.

Beautifully written, and not your usual Young Adult read (which tends to focus on story-telling rather than character development and setting - not that I have a problem with that, but it's great when there is more). The people and place are individual and real, I can almost smell the ash. Each story has a different tone, building into a whole which skilfully conveys the a range of how it feels to be a teenager in small town America. This is show-not-tell. And a good story, too.
