So I read this prequel before starting the main series. I thought it was ok. The first half was pretty bland but the second half picked up a bit.

My only complaint is that some of the stories dragged a bit. Otherwise, I loved seeing the backstory of Adarlan’s Assassin. Still crying for Sam.

this book had so much potential to be amazing but it felt so slow and absolutely bored me so many times. i was expecting a lot of assassinating and interactions with people who were important in Celaena’s past but we didn’t actually get much of that. if someone wants to commit to this series and understand everything i suggest you read this but personally if i’m going to do a reread i’ll probably skip this book.
