Man, Luke was a BLOCKHEAD.

It took him essentially 90% of the book to figure out what the reader knows all along: that he was not really in love with the second woman. Heath dragged it out for waaaaay too long.

What I like about this book is the length of things heroin, Lady Catherine willing to do for the people she love. How fierce and brave she was despite her current family condition.

The hero, Luke despite being a scoundrel wished he was a honest man for Catherine and his true identity remain questionable until it was folded.

Queue in the couple, the tension was sizzling between them, the angst & frustration... *chefs kiss* idk, some ppl might called some part cheating but for me it was justified because Frannie (the other woman) doesn't really accept his proposal, Luke was a free man imo. My only issue here is that the hero took long enough to end things but im glad for the HEA. I enjoyed the book and it got me hooked from start to finish.

One of the best and most enjoyable traditional bodice ripper style historical romances I've read. It does lean a bit heavily into all the devil references, but it was such a fun time with two great MCs and a really great plot that I can overlook small nitpicks. This will absolutely have me searching out more from this author.

My first Lorraine Heath and I hated that it took so much for me to finish this one, I don't know why. The plot is simple: hero and heroine strike a bargain - she'll help him get the woman he loves and in exchange he'll kill someone for her. But of course they end up falling in love. And it was SO BEAUTIFUL. Luke, the Devil Earl, is not a Devil at all, of course. Underneath all that tough mask, there's a wonderful and passionate man who'll do everything to protect the woman he loves. And Catherine was such an amazing, strong heroine.

I enjoyed this one! I really like how digestible Lorraine Heath’s writing is and how real her characters feel. I’m excited to work my way through this series.
