Alan Alda was one of my first celebrity crushes as I was obsessed with MASH. He remains one still even though I am older. Naturally I was interested in this book, I did want this in audio but it seems as it another narrator read this which sounds odd when you’re expecting Hawkeye ...
I get the feeling that I’ve read this book before … or I’ve heard these stories before in interviews before with Mr. Alda.
This was a very pleasant book with the first half being stronger - I just wish this was in audiobook format read by Mr. Alda as I missed hearing the stories from him. The book dealing with his childhood and how he met his wife was especially great. The latter half was a little slow - it dealt more with his post MASH career and his focus on science and learning. There actually wasn’t as much of it in comparison, which left the book a little fragmented compared to his more biographical chapters.
Overall, this wasn’t as funny as I was expecting. Perhaps that was unfair of me; as I said I’ve heard these stories before in a more engaging format. Still this was a charming read in the end. I think he wrote more biographies after this one where he talks more of his post-MASH life which I am now more interested in. They are also read by Mr. Alda which is a definite plus.
I will likely check them out from the library sometime soon I think.

3.5 stars.
Honestly, I don't really remember why I picked this up. Maybe because I love M*A*S*H so much or I wanted to learn more about Alan Alda. Whatever the reason, this was a lovely little read!

I had a big crush on Alan Alda starting in high school when I watched a lot of M*A*S*H* in syndication. I had read a biography about him a long time ago, learned about how he was a big advocate fro the ERA and that just made me like him more.
I'm still in the middle of this, but it's nice to read a book about someone with humor and integrity, but not at all boring.

Bless his entire heart, it's a miracle he didn't grow up to be crazy.
