The book honestly had a slow start, although I still very much enjoyed it. Once I picked up the book, I couldn’t put it down

A fun, (relatively) light read with disabilit  rep (dyslexia) and a Black woman FMC

Recommended to mind the trigger warnings. Though not graphic, there are topics in the book some readers may find uncomfortable or painful.

I enjoyed this one more than the last one. It got very good just before the half way point and I enjoyed the story from there. Declan Kane is a very attractive man ;))

Iris and Declan have a forced proximity work relationship which turns to arranged marriage of convenience 🤭 I love these tropes and they were done really well. I love the banter the two characters had and their spicy scenes.

I loved the voice actors for this audiobook and I think the plot itself was much better than the fine print. Iris was a great FMC and was very enjoyable to listen about. I think her struggles with parental abuse and dyslexia were handled with care and added to her character.

Idk about Declan but something about the Kane boys I just can't get behind.... Like ok they have an asshole dad but a wonderful mother who just passed away too soon. It feels a bit extreme for the way he acts, especially in the 3rd act and his harsh words. IMO, there wasnt enough grovelling at the end to fix what he did so late in the story ..

While I enjoyed the ending
with the dog and the greenhouse, then the epilogues with their babygirl and the graduation party,
- but again it felt rushed to forgive and conclude the book. Overall 4/5 and I'm sad by library doesn't have the audiobook for #3 but I'll read it!

Overall, I liked this couple better than than the previous book's. The troupe is marriage of convenience, and, yes, Declan is established as a very selfish character, so was this couple particularly healthy? No, but I wasn't expecting them to be. I wanted to be entertained and not cringe too much, and that was achieved. One major flaw with their relationship's progression was that it happened way too fast. There either should have been a pre-established recognition of attraction between the two, but it is repressed due to their working dynamic, or the pacing of the relationship and realization of feelings should have happened much more slowly. I liked Iris as a character (was not entirely sold on the narrator's voice, though: gave Carrigan from Casper vibes). The third act break-up makes sense for their characters, but I do think that fairly good communication had been established previously in the book, so a healthy conversation and then a united front to overcome their main professional obstacle (
Declan's father
) would have been preferred.
