Do you ever read a book and just want to highlight the whole thing? This is one of those books. The sheer density of value Fanon provides is incredible.

Not to say I could write anything better than this, but I did feel like this was overly intellectual in a way that the people Fanon was arguing for, were in a way excluded. Also, I felt it would’ve been beneficial to have consistent case studies and examples, rather than a little here and there and a long chunk at the end.
However, this was dense, informative, and inspirational in the way it made me angry at the world and the coloniser. I can definitely appreciate how it was and still is a good mechanism for movement and change.

Fantastic. It took me 8 months of reading off and on, whoops, but reading it slowly gave me time to absorb it. This book expanded my understanding of so many different things—how colonialism works, violent revolutions, the relation of national sentiments and culture within the context of colonizing forces, and the mental agony that colonized people suffer under colonizers—and its lessons will stick with me.

Very hard read, but good. On violence is perhaps the most valuable section, but there are good pieces throughout. But again, very slow and sometimes difficult to conceptualize on a first read.

This is a classic for a reason, and is an essential read for anyone curious about the colonial and post-colonial world.
I can't count the number of times I've seen people reference or cite this book. That said, I often see people talk about it with regards to Fanon's views on violence. While this is an essential part of the book and undeniably resonant, Fanon doesn't spend that much of the text needing to justify anti-colonial violence. His treatment of it at the start of the book is all he needs. Rather than focusing on "justifying" violence, he spends a much greater portion of the book discussing the post-colonial bourgeoisie, and the broad state of society when a colony attempts to gain freedom. He analyzes all of this from the zoomed out government and society levels, and also from the very individual and psychological levels. The case studies that the book ends with are incredibly powerful, and in my memory they will remain the centerpiece of my perspectives on this book, even as the years pass.

Was due back at the library. Intend to just get my own copy so I can annotate and read at a more intentional pace.
