huh! not sure how i feel about this guy writing a wlw/nblw focused story when he's consistently treated lesbians and trans women like shit in everything else he writes!* also, btw, nonbinary lesbians exist. i am one actually. you don't have to stop identifying as a lesbian just because you found out you're nonbinary. also, lesbians can be attracted to nonbinary people! so can gay men, straight people and literally every other identity in between! you don't Have to identify as a lesbian if you're a nonbinary person attracted to women and other nonbinary people, but talking about an issue like this requires nuance that i don't believe this book will portray adequately.

*jk i do know how i feel. i don't like it. also, newsflash, the world's most influential terfs are straight women, by a huge margin, not lesbians like you claim in your other book. I was excited because Vico Ortiz narrated this book. Then I went into the reviews and realised that this book contains lesbophobia fired by the author’s views and I’m tired of men misrepresenting lesbians. So now every enthusiasm about continuing is gone.

A YA contemporary romance about a young actor struggling with their gender identity, toxic bosses and a managerial mom all the while they find themselves falling in love with their co-star. I definitely had low expectations going into this story due to all the bad reviews on here and while the book wasn't as excruciating as I expected, I still agree with the majority of the reviews on here. Between the privileged unlikeable main character to the lack of chemistry between them and their love interest, Greta, to the problematic throwaway lines of narration (which imply that girls are the only ones that develop eating disorders, that you can't be nonbinary AND a lesbian, that scissoring isn't a "real thing," that a nonbinary person dating a cis girl is somehow a "straight relationship," among other things), this book is a hot mess. Other things that I didn't care for: the weird pacing, the predictable plot points, the sheer amount of useless characters that only show up for a scene or two, in addition to the unsatisfying ending that doesn't even TRY to fix all the shit that's wrong with the TV show the main character stars in. While I appreciated the queer representation in this unique story, I felt that this book tried to say way too much and ended up saying nothing at all in the end. If you're going to pick up this book, I recommending doing so with these caveats (in addition to the author's lesbophobic past) in mind.

4 stars!
These characters are super cute. Especially our main character Lily. I love that we get to be a part of Lily's self, gender and sexuality discovery. I like that the book addressed social issues and was still fun and nerdy. I do feel like we needed more from our side characters and an epilogue that was a little further out.
