It’s ok, not sure if I am a fan of Garcia’s writing or whether it’s just me. The plot sounded intriguing and yet how it’s written it just makes me yearn to read something else that would hold my interest more. I feel separated from the story and characters and don’t really feel much for anyone… I just find it a bit boring.

it's not that his style didn't appeal to me, because it's commendable, but i'm sure it's not his best book. i'm not very fond of roman catholic threads, although i must admit that the title has a very nice symbolism. my favorite part of the book was when the priest whipped himself until he won't think about sierva. very nicely formed ending.

This one took me forever to finish and it was so short! I think that’s why it’s getting 3 stars from me instead of 4, was just hard to get through more than 10 pages at a time without getting a smidge lost with characters, backstories, and where things were going. A decent intro into Marquez and i’m excited to read some of his other works soon, this one i ended up enjoying a lot in the latter half but the first half was pretty tough to get through for me. I enjoyed the story and the symbolism as it wrapped up however, and am excited to look into some more of the things I might’ve missed tomorrow! Thank you beach weekend for getting me through this book slump, and into the next one!
