Much science that I do not grasp but still fascinating to listen to. The discworld story is lovely as always and i do wish we had more of it!

This series is without doubt among the best pop science books ever written. So entertaining, so witty and so straightforward in their descriptions and and examples. Rather than write an individual review for each of this series I'm making an omnibus one for all. These books tread much the same ground as Bryson's a short history of Nearly everything, Harraria's Sapiens, Dawkins Blind watchmaker and Mt improbable and many, many more.

In a way I wish they were titled differently, much as with their ongoing jibe at Darwin's 'Decent of man' the title 'The Science of' turns off more readers than it attracts which is to my mind at least, a tragedy.

One of only two books and a few short stories in the series I hadn't read prior to this complete reread started in September 2020.

I didn't enjoy this AS much as the first two Science of Discworld books because a lot of the science chapters were too metaphysical for me (what is the shape of the universe? etc). Still, the parts about the science of belief were interesting, and the Discworld sections had a Roundworld librarian as the main character, so I'm all about that.

While I enjoyed Terry Pratchett's chapters in this one, they were sadly short. When the other authors actually delved into the scientific concepts they did well. It was dry reading, but still interesting. Their dismissive and repetitive diatribes against all things religious was not at all persuasive for their point of view.

Great! Always nice to see someone mentioning complexity science, and the cosmology and cosmogony parts were really interesting.

Also, I love the idea of space bolas!

A lesson in rhetoric and in quantum mechanics. Would’ve been a 5 if not for the Dawkins references.
