An amusing debut novel set in St Paul and Chicago, and concerning a set of cons being run concerning a violin. The main character (Herman) is a bail bondsman with a shady past and the characters he meets along the way are definitely characters.  A lot of the dialogue hearkens to noir detective stories.  I enjoyed the experience. The book was compelling enough to keep me reading, but not so detailed that I had to struggle to keep things straight.
