I found this at the library and decided to pick it up on a whim. For the first entry in this series, it was a very emotional, funny, and educational read. The writer actually took the time to research and bring in as much practical knowledge as possible to make this agricultural school believable. The characters are built up slowly, but in a way that is believable to the reader and to how an outsider would likely react in a group of people more attuned to each other. If I can find the other volumes, I look forward to reading more about Hachiken and his journey of discovering what he truly wants and how this new world will shape him.
Graphic: Animal death, Body shaming, Fatphobia, and Excrement
Moderate: Animal cruelty, Sexism, Blood, and Medical content
Minor: Death of parent

My husband had us watch Silver Spoon because it's by the same person as Full Metal Alchemist and because he loves slice of life. I wasn't sure I'd like it, but I absolutely loved it. So far, the manga is just as wonderful. It's really rewarding watching Hachiken adjust to the agricultural high school and embark on a journey to find his future dreams. I also love the depictions of food throughout this series!
๐ The gist ๐: A slice of life following a high school boy who goes to an agricultural high school to get far away from his parents. The work is tough, especially because he might be the only one there without big dreams.
๐Representation๐: industrial agricultural life, low income, Japanese culture
๐ For readers looking for ๐: slice of life, life goals theme, adjusting to major life changes, fun characters, agricultural life, high school, and amazing food
Moderate: Animal death, Fatphobia, and Blood
