A lot happened in a seemingly short amount of time. I'm not sure if this was a pacing issue or a me issue, but I felt like I was constantly battling my ADD to follow the plot which is usually not a problem for me.

It's possible the series picks up in book 2, but I think this is a no go for me. I think perhaps if you're looking for an alternative to Harry Potter (with a less TERFy author and older students), it could be worth a try on kindle unlimited.

Charlie is homeless. The. she begins to exhibit magic and an unfortunate turn of events results in her being whisked off to Supernatural Academy and rescued from her life on the streets. But does she really belong there? This story is definitely interesting and fast paced. It also very definitely falls into the YA genre, which I like, but I suppose some people may not. I enjoyed the story and especially the characters. There’s some great tension between Charlie, and her nemesis/crush Rowan. The end definitely made me want to keep reading the series!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Enjoyed it

I did read this quickly and liked it. There's something missing I can't quite put my finger on though. I loved the characters but besides Charlie, I didn't feel a connection to anyone else in the story. I feel maybe I will get more attached the further I continue? Not sure. Overall I liked it and will probably continue

Fairly typical paranormal YA with heroine discovering powers, being whisked off to magic school and the typical hot’n’çold love interest that you just want to smack the heroine for obsessing over.

I don't think it's bad, it's just that nothing's holding my attention lately.
Maybe I'll take a break from fantasy and go back to science fiction.
