Sometimes I like watching a show before reading the book because it helps with visualization and I’m so glad I did for this one. I was able to picture the show characters so well in the book and it really added to the reading experience. I actually liked how the show depicted their complicated relationships with each other more, but I did appreciate being more in Celeste’s head about
the dv issues.

Listen, I’m counting this as finished even though I did have to stop about 75% of the way through. An incredibly compelling story that I seriously loved, but just too triggering to continue at this stage in my life

This was absolutely enthralling. Like I literally could not turn the pages fast enough. I could feel my heart beating as I got closer and closer to learning who died on trivia night and why. Jane, Madeline, and Celeste are wonderfully complex, three-dimensional, flawed characters. And, obviously, it’s a great dissection of white suburban life and politics.

Contemporary books tend to annoy me, because I often find the tone to be too flippant. But I think I’ve just been reading the wrong contemporary authors. Liane Moriarty kept it perfectly serious and tense when it needed to be, and balanced it just right with a dash of lightheartedness and humor.
