this was… fine.
the protagonist and the plot were both boring and it felt longer than it needed to be. there was a lot of repetition and the mystery didn’t really come together in a surprising way. the resolution of a number of red herrings was pretty limp.
this is the level of passable entertainment that would keep me distracted on an airplane, but i will forget about this book entirely as soon as i post this

Cherrie has a pretty good life; a steady boyfriend, a young son called Robin, and a job she doesn't hate. All of this is put in jeopardy when a young boy is kidnapped from nearby and Cherrie's past is revealed. Her father is a notorious serial killer nicknamed Mr Bones, who kidnapped and murdered eleven boys 25 years ago. Cherrie, then Leigh-Ann Hendy, changed her name and her life to get away from his legacy, but when Robin is also kidnapped, Cherrie has to face the past because maybe Leigh-Ann was more involved than she wants to admit. After all, her nickname was Little Bones.
This started off well and maintained a great pace for the first half of the book, but then it seemed to veer into outlandish territory. I believe that anyone would be beside themselves over a missing child, but to lurch from one suspect to the next with no evidence, breaking into homes, and generally behaving like a thug did the character no favours. The second half was a disappointment, so I rated it 3 stars for the first half.

The synopsis was more intriguing than the actual book to me. It could have been a creepy, dark story that focused on an unreliable narrator and the impact of having a serial killer dad but instead I got an unbearably stupid protagonist and a lack of psychological honesty. I was disappointed and the writing style didn't make up for the ridiculousness of the plot- though to be fair to the author, I did read it in a day. It was almost a DNF though so make of that what you will.

What did I just read? Goodness can we breathe now because wow what a book. This book was about a woman who is tryna recover that is reminded of her childhood after a young boy goes missing. You see her father was a famous serial killer and she used to help lure children *sob*. This book was dark and all but I was engaged. The plot was quite intriguing. Huge thanks to Avon for my e-ARC
