Nice coming of age story set in the summer of 1976. As a child of that era, I could really relate to this story and thought House did a great job detailing that time period. Also compelling was the veteran angle and how war,in this case Vietnam, and its aftermath could affect a family.

A well-written, engrossing family saga, but I do question how well it works as a kid's book.

The book starts out rather slow, but by the middle I was truly engrossed! What a great book!

Took me two tries to finish it, but once I got in, I was hooked.

Thought I'd give Silas House another try as I didn't like The Coal Tattoo at all. I didn't feel much differently about this one. A better title would've been Eli the Boring. :(
