Oscar Wildes version of the death of John the Baptist.

When Salomé the spoiled step-daughter of King Herod, meets the prophet Jokanaan she flip flops between what she liked about him until finally landing on his lips.

SALOMÉ
Let me kiss thy mouth.

JOKANAAN
Never! daughter of Babylon! Daughter of Sodom! Never.

SALOMÉ
I will kiss thy mouth, Jokanaan. I will kiss thy mouth.

This rebuff sets the scene for this one act play, and to the downward spiral of Salomé.
