Lauren Groff keeps winning! She's a master of character studies. Begrudging props for predicting a pandemic very similar to the one that actually happened.

Well-written, interesting concept, but the story and characters didn't really do a lot for me.

I just could not get into this one. Partly it was the child protagonist...that's hard to pull off, and this one didn't work for me. But the story also seemed too needlessly grim without enough payoff, and none of the characters mattered very much to me. Seems more in line with Groff's (grotesque) short fiction than with Monsters of Templeton, which is a shame. I put it down halfway through.

What a wonderful book. I loved how Graff explored the near-future in the last section and can't wait for the book club discussion on the many important themes of this novel.

This was a beautiful, sad novel. Bit Stone, the protagonist, is such a sympathetic, likable character. Groff's writing is poetic and poignant and she renders her characters with detail and grace.
