Shakespeare: His Life, Art, And Characters, Volume (I) is a very illuminating and well-articulated piece of work. The author does well in delivering in-depth information regarding Shakespeare's life and his works.

Moreover, the author also provides an interesting analysis of his own regarding numerous works of Shakespeare which allows the reader to observe the works of this great artist in a new light.
Where it lacks, in my opinion, is that it provides tons and tons of information which at times is not valid in relation to the context. The writing, while purely academic and hindering towards eloquence, is another element that I didn't quite like about the book. The author tries too hard to show-off his eloquence and his skillful articulation in using complicated words - that at times isn't really valid either.

Regardless, this has definitely been an enlightening and enjoyable read for me. I liked it a lot since it imparted a lot of information onto me that I didn't know before. I think a strong rating of three is fair. I would recommend this book to only those who are looking to study Shakspeare and his works. If you're looking for a leisure reading then it would be good to steer clear away from this and try something less arduous.
