I forgot how hard hitting the ending of this book is. I reread for a work book club and the end hit me like a stomach punch as I thought about how many more are “absent again today” since the publishing of this book. Should be required reading.

This book has a lot of good messages. ultimately the characters feel kind of flat. the interspersed treatises on racism are valid and important, but at times felt like they didn’t fit in the flow of the story. there were still moments of brilliance, and appreciate the multiple perspectives provided by the story

I feel like this book could have been way more. There’s a lot of ‘unfinished’ things, which annoys me. But besides that: it’s a ‘nice’ read, that makes you reflect on yourself and the society we live in.
