I wanted to read this book as I have seen it everywhere and I'm slightly disappointed in myself for not picking this up when I was much younger. However, as a 22-year-old reading Percy Jackson for the first time, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

This book follows Percy Jackson. He is a good kid, but he can’t seem to focus on his schoolwork or control his temper. And lately, being away at a boarding school is only getting worse – Percy could have sworn his pre-algebra teacher turned into a monster and tried to kill him. When Percy’s mom finds out, she knows it’s time that he knew the truth about where he came from, and that he has to go to a place where he’ll be safe. She sends Percy to Camp Half Blood, a summer camp for demigods (on Long Island), where he learns that the father, he never knew is Poseidon, God of the Sea. Soon a mystery unfolds and together with his friends – one a satyr and the other the demigod daughter of Athena – Percy sets out on a quest across the United States to reach the gates of the Underworld and prevent a catastrophic war between the gods.

So, I went into this book with little to no knowledge of this series. I know there is a new TV show coming out and I know there was a film out, I haven’t watched the film as I usually struggle to get into Greek Mythology books. For a young adult book, this book was a super easy read, and the explanation didn’t feel like you were stupid, and I didn’t even have to google anything. The storyline was action-packed but also managed to give you a feel of the characters and the world we’ve just been introduced to. I love the found family element in this book and I love the trio. Yes, I can see the elements to Harry Potter with the trio, but I liked the difference between them.

I loved this book, and I will carry on with this series even if I am 30 when I finish this series.

Re-reading as an adult and it is definitely perfect for a younger audience. It was very funny and light most of the way through. I like the Adhd representation although you can tell the language is a little dated. A lot of kids would enjoy this I'm sure.
