This story is based on a folk tale from Africa. It has a fun song that was written along with it. I took off a star because it was not an own voices story in an instance where that seemed particularly important.

I registered a book at BookCrossing.com!

The best part of this is the introduction by Pete Seeger --
"But what is the 'right' way to tell the story? Time will tell"
A short little folk tale - cute.

I didn't remember this book from my Reading Rainbow watching days. However, when I sat down to read this with a student, I transported back in time. I found it on Youtube and let him experience it through the author's song and voice. Beautiful back then and even better today.

This was suggested to me because I've read some other folktales recently. It was cute.

The main thing I remember about this book is that it came with a cassette, and the Abiyoyo song will still periodically get stuck in my head, even though I haven't heard it in 13 or 14 years. Abiyoyo, Abiyoyo. Abiyoyo, iyoyo, iyoyo!

At least half of my childhood was made of Pete Seeger. I can't give this an unbiased rating.
