Back to fighting in the wars!

I very much enjoyed Laurence and Temeraire finding themselves at odds over the issues of dragons, because you see both sides so clearly -- yes of course dragons deserve rights, but Laurence is also right that the kind of work that is necessary is long and hard and can be difficult because people are the worst.

As evidenced by the people in this book who were THE WORST. \o/

i just love this series it is such a comfort series for me. i also love how it makes the napoleaonic wars and that time period, previously a time i had no interest in and seemed very complicated and inaccessible, interesting and fun. i loved how they travelled to so many different places, i lovedddd the new character Tharkay i really hope he stays, i loveeeee Granby
Spoiler when he almost died i was in utter shock and had to skim to make sure he was okay and when the dragon hatched and he became his own captain i was low-key emotional such mixed feelings i hope he stays central
and i have never been more jealous of a dragon in my life - the fact that temeraire can learn any language to p much fluency through just like a few weeks of exposure makes me SO JEALOUS LIKE JESUS CHRIST. but yeah, i’m just so attached to them all🥲 so yeah unless something awful happens this series is just always gonna hit for me i think. Oh and i’m so invested in Lien i think she’s such a good ‘villain’ or ‘adversary’? idk what to call her but i really enjoy when she’s there like i really feel the danger and tension which i love cuz i feel like often the stakes don’t feel too high w some villains and i think she’s such an interesting character too

This had been lingering on my "To Read" list for years. I liked the first two books, so I finally figured I should read the third book. It was fine. There was just a lot of descriptions of battle locales that I glossed over. Tonally, I didn't exactly like the Anglo-centric colonialism even though there were some criticisms of it in the book. The whole harem thing was tiresome. I actually didn't really care if they won or lost some of the battles.

In the first two books, I was entertained by the novelty of air battles on dragons. But now that those are expected, the book is less exciting. I'm probably done with this series now.
