Even though this book wasn't particularly dramatic or sad, it managed to pack a bit emotional punch and made me cry several times.
I have mixed feelings about Viola. On one hand, I love how much she stands out from other FMCs in the genre. She's exceptionally beautiful and she knows it. She's the pursuer in the romance. She doesn't have a tragic past or any deep-seated insecurities, only a few rather mundane and to-be-expected troubles in an otherwise happy and privileged life. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of how relentlessly she pursues someone who has plainly stated they are not interested in her, and how insistent she is that her "inklings" are always right. And of course there's the fact thatshe trapped him into marriage , which is addressed but in my opinion not enough.
Nevertheless, I had a good time. It was a cute story that kept me interested. I like the "big gruff man x small dainty woman" thing.

Not my cup of tea. Heroine doesn’t respect boundaries and hero is stubborn and inflexible regarding a decision made at 17.

I don't like the good old "I can't love her" "I can't marry her" "I can't have her" from male lead

No strong representation of diverse characters or minority identities.
Safety Rating: Safe with Exceptions
• No cheating
• Does have OM drama
– the Heroine has a bunch of OM attempting to court her, but she's obviously not interested (the Hero's still jealous)
• Does have OW drama
– Hero runs into his childhood sweetheart (and the mother of his child who passed away in the prologue). She's now a widow and kisses the Hero, which the Heroine witnesses. The Hero rejects the OW, but the Heroine doesn't know this and is under the impression that if it hadn't been for her forcing the Hero to marry her, he could've finally married his childhood sweetheart. This misunderstanding serves as the main point of tension in the latter half of the book.
• Does have the MCs pushing each other away
• No separation
Possible Triggers: Yes
• Death of Hero's child in the prologue
• Allusion to infertility in epilogue
Ending:HEA

I have enjoyed the previous books in this series but this one was my least favorite. The writer was great and it was interesting throughout but I was just not able to connect with the heroine, Viola. Most of her stubbornness I was able to ignore but I did not like the way she sort of forced his hand into marrying her. Yes, Yes, He was in love with her all that time and they all live happily ever after but I probably would have been happier if she had given him a choice in that matter.
