The Girl In The Mirror was the absolute best way to end 2020. I read it all in one day while hiding from my family because I needed to know what was going to happen! And let me tell you, that last sentence BLEW MY MIND! I reread the last page three times before it clicked what happened and then I was left saying, “what the hell?!” to myself the rest of the night.

If you have not read this book, go read it now!

I highly recommend not reading the synopsis for this one, going in without any knowledge made the book so much better for me.

Also, shout out to my girl Lauren, @thereadroversbookclub, for letting me borrow this one!

I’m not going to try to explain the plot. Think a parody OF a parody of the worst soap opera storylines you can imagine. What I *will* do is call out everything that enraged or absolutely baffled me (as to how there are so many rave reviews for this problematic collection of pages):

The author knows boatloads (

So I went into this book totally blind without knowing the synopsis right so I had no idea what was gonna happen on the boat. I thought it was going to lead to an affair not a death but nonetheless I had creepy vibes from Iris from the get go— when Summer disappears and I see Iris’s reaction I calmed down but then she took the idea to impersonate her dead sister and take her place which put her back into cuckoo for coco puffs category again. This is a horrible idea and I have no idea how she thinks she’s gonna get away with it.

She’s such an awful unlikable main character from the beginning BUT OMG the twist at the end..

Summer is a brilliant — PSYCHOTIC— asshole. I low key love how ruthless her plan was. There was so many safe holes into her plan & if Summer wasn’t going to hurt Esther then I probably would have rooted for her so I was kind of bummed out that she lost but then BOOM second plot twist &&&&&&&&&&& Summer won but considering she said “time to meet Rose Bud” then I feel like she’s not going to hurt Esther after all so fuck it— the smarter twin won I guess

Holy Cow... resisting the urge to spoiler, all I can say is that this was more complex than I originally imagined!

My original suspicion of how this was going to span out was not completely wrong, but oh how my world has been turned upside down - or should I say backwards.

If you aren't hooked after the first few pages - keep reading. The layers of manipulation, of intrigue, and of psychotic twists will leave you up at night desperate to finish the book to know what happens next.

So, I have this thing I’ve done ever since 3th grade where I pick up a new book and read just the very last sentence in the book. Then I flip to the front and start reading. I like to see how the story unfolds towards that ending sentence and guess along the way of how the book ends up there. If you are a weirdo like me, DON’T do that with this book! Just jump right in. For what ever reason, I thankfully didn’t do that this time so nothing was spoiled.

Now to my thoughts on the book; Yes, another review from me saying “stick with this book till the end” but trust me. For me, the first 200 pages were frustrating as I thought I had the twist figured out. Wrong. Read it. Then text me because you will need to debrief.
