I really ended up liking this one. It started out weird but by the end was really fantastic. Odd writing style but tied up very well

Cate recommended this book to me and said it was really sad, which it totally is. But I kid you not it pained my to turn the page. (I can’t remember any names except for the son so lol) I LOVED the weird sculptor guy he was giving such Mr Sikowitz vibes and I loved it. I did NOT like the older bad boy. Yeah he saved Jude’s life or whatever and I appreciate that but it felt so cliche and not written very well. Giving me Ian from the pretty little liars books and Toby from the pretty little liars TV show. I didn’t like the main girl. I wanted to very much but she felt too whiney and boring. I get that she went through a lot with her mum dying but idk I just didn’t like her. She seems like too likable. It’s very clear the author wants us to like her so do with that what you will. Now Jude. Oh my gosh. Okay, loved his backstory I guess. He was very sweet when he was younger. I liked him and that boy who threw rocks at his window and I think he was portrayed well as MLM EXCEPT of course I can’t tell anyone that for sure because I am not a man who loves men. But he really was just a flop character imo. Like he WAS very sweet and it’s not even that he was suicidal that got him to be mean because, trust me I know how shit a person can get when they’re suicidal. But it’s just like. Can’t you be even a little bit civil to your sister? Can’t you recognise the pain the WHOLE family’s going through? I get that that’s more of a personal disliking though.
The ending felt very rushed and the start was very slow. I get why it was a bit longer because we really needed the whole backstory and I’m grateful for that but the present day bits... it just was really forking slow.
This really just a personal thought and I do not regret reading it at all, I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone but I can appreciate the happiness it has brought other people so :)

TOO MANY metaphors. I just do not like this style of writing, no matter how appealing the story line. :( Disappointed.
