I loved the heck out of this book. Who knew that my kindred spirit would be an aged militant vegan living alone in an extremely rural part of Poland? I guess she's also an English teacher, so it makes sense.

As a murder mystery,
Spoilerit's pretty predictable, and I don't even try to figure mysteries
. Overall, though, the unique, quirky narrator is what makes the book a great read.

Really enjoyed this book, it's dark and mysterious and holds some interesting ideas among the fictional story. Although the story is plot driven, the main character is likable or relatable for me at least; she holds a more understated version of female rage than is portrayed in the mainstream, undoubtedly due to her age and years of isolation.

The deer gazed at us calmly, as if we had caught them in the middle of performing a ritual whose meaning we couldn't fathom.

This was a little bit of a miss for me. I found the main character quite interesting, just like the story and the setting, except that the whole read felt a little boring to me. Roughly at the 30% mark the book started getting repetative, which, if done right, I can be a fan of, but not here. The story felt streched out. Even if it made sense for the main character, I didn’t love it.

The writing style was incredibly beautiful at times, and at times I found myself trying to skim.
