In a fit of whimsy, I hereby announce I will give everyone five stars, but the reviews may not reflect it.

Nothing like a bit of cannibalism to start the day. Snyder is known for other things, but this was a good one. A runaway makes friends with a man while on the road and guess what? Yeah, you probably did, but sometimes the journey and not the ending make something great. Dark and grim - just my cup of tea.

I received a free ebook copy of this from NetGalley.

All in all, this is a pretty solid horror story but, frankly, I was a little disappointed. I've greatly enjoyed Snyder's work before and so I think I was looking for something a little more than 'solid.' Of course, this doesn't mean I didn't enjoy it: it was a decent enough story, with some genuinely creepy going-ons, and there were a few instances in the story that I genuinely thought were good additions to the mood. It just didn't impress me, exactly; it was worth a read but I'm not sure how much I'd care about re-reading, even with the speed you can breeze through it.

The art does deserve a lot of credit though. It was impressive, and it fit the mood and grime of the story in a really wonderful way. The artist did an especially good job juxtaposing the book endings of the first and last few pages with the much more sordid and despairing time period of the heart of the comic.

What an awful comic, really. I mean, it's put together the way a comic should be, etc...but man, this was terrible. There's a whole bunch of soliloquizing about the road in here that doesn't mean anything and doesn't really add to the story, and then the ending is a bunch of stuff coming together that was never even in motion. Just terrible stuff.

Pretty well done for someone who was never into the genre before.

I like horror but thought this was pretty tedious. The art style was difficult and the book spent a lot of time on character details and speechifying that messed up the pacing for me. I like slow punctuated by shocks, but I wasn't invested enough in the characters or world to hang through the long in-between bits.
