I had not sought out this book, but stumbled across the audio book when looking for things to listen to on a road trip. I picked it up thinking it would keep my attention. I didn't end up listening to it on the road trip, but did start listening to it anytime I was in my car. It did keep my attention and kept me sitting in my car for minutes after arriving at my destination wondering what would happen next. I really liked this book. Sometimes listening to an audio book is very different than reading it, but I think the narrarator of this book helped the story and didn't distract from it. The story kept getting more complicated and layered. I didn't think more could happen and then it would. I think I would have liked reading this book even more than listening to it. I learned through reading this that this is a series, which I plan to put on my to-read list.

Legal thrillers are not usually my jam; I think I've only read a mere handful. I selected this one since I enjoyed the film adaptation, and it is fine with a fairly entertaining story and some decent twists along the way. However, there isn't much here to entice me to continue reading the series, especially since I didn't find Mickey Haller to be that interesting of a central character. A fun venture into a genre that I don't tend to read from, but not much more.

Nearly identical to the movie, although I saw the movie when it first came out so it has been awhile. I like smart ass cops/lawyers who do their job, catch the bad guys and learn their lessons in the end. Mickey could defend me any day.

As far as suspense fiction goes, Connolly is great! This is the first one of his books I have read, and I will be reading more. This book is about a defense lawyer who defends the worst of the slime. He is worried he won't "know innocence when he sees it." There are a number of twists in the case he is defending for a wealthy young man accused of sexual assault. I really enjoyed this book.

Mickey Haller is a defense attorney who operates out of his Lincoln for ease of mobility in getting to his various clients in the courthouses, jails, and prisons he's in and out of all the time. He's doing his usual routine when a client falls in his lap that he thinks could be a "franchise" case - one that brings in the big bucks. Louis Roulet is accused of assaulting a prostitute and Haller thinks it's going to be a fairly easy case to defend. But when someone close to him is murdered, he realizes there is more to this case than he first realized. Supported by his two ex-wives, Haller digs further into his client's past and realizes quickly there are some cracks in his client's story. Before he knows it, he's fighting for his own life.

Many legal thrillers can be dry and get bogged down in courtroom details and one-dimensional characters. This book had rich character development, not only with Haller, but the side characters and how they interact with him. An interesting plot with realistic twists, this had the right mix of legal procedure, suspense, and action. Looking forward to reading more in the series.
