A beautifully written recounting of the often difficult love between a mother and daughter on different sides of a culture wall. So honest and bare, the author’s ability to recall even the smallest moments of pain or confusion were satisfying and inspiring for anyone who has had to walk through grief and loss before. This was a very unique and beautiful experience.

“Crying in H Mart” is an incredibly sad and  beautifully written love letter from a daughter to her deceased mother. Zauner and her mom shared a love of food that connected them to each other and their Korean culture. This is a memoir that will make you hungry and make you cry.

Beautifully written. Talks about the dark, painful parts of caring for a sick parent and grieving their death. And about the pain of being mixed race and losing your culture when you lose a parent. Plus wonderful descriptions of food.
