5/5 stars for Armand canonically wearing Jean on jeans.

Otherwise, this is very polarizing. Everybody in this book except for the vampires have yapping disease and it’s like I’m reading a vampire chronicles book babes. I’m not here for television evangelical women who are on their period (🫥) and devil’s that don’t get on with their story until 72% of the book is completed. I kind of understand why she wrote it and why some people love it (i googled Memnoch the Devil + Reddit when I was 30% into the book because I needed to see how other people felt about this book and there are STANS). It’s like if god and the devil exist why do vampires exist in the world. A very theological musing type book but it’s like get to the point please instead of waxing away about how you want lestat to fight on your side like PLEASEEEEEEEEEEE I felt I was a hostage at some points x.

Anyway excited for the vampire Armand
bitch better be alive 🤨 I’m not playing Anne.

Honestly I was surprised I liked this as much as I did but I guess it's easier to be more generous to mid to late TVC after seeing how bad body thief was.

I thought I would have to force my way through this one just because I wanted to read The Vampire Armand. The beginning failed to grab me, but eventually I became super interested in Rice's fictional versions of heaven and hell and morality. It feels like we're witnessing her faith crisis through her characters, even more so than in some of her earlier books. The notion of "forgiving God" feels very interesting and powerful to me, even as an atheist. I'm conflicted over the ending; I can't really think of what I'd rather had happened, but I found it confusing and disturbing.
