I don't know why I keep subjecting myself to Anne Rice's writing. I can't stand it.

My god, what a horrible piece of crap this was. Lestat goes to heaven and hell and eats a nun's menstrual blood. I kid you not. Stay the hell away.

Updating my rating to 5 stars because I’ve read 8 books since finishing this and can’t stop thinking about it. Anne cooked with this.

Damn, she kind of did the thing with this one. I seriously contemplated a DNF 100 pages in, but once we meet Memnoch around page 150, the ball really gets rolling.

The thing is, don’t read this expecting a plot. Anne loves a back story and creating history and that’s what this is! There is a ‘plot’ but it’s really more discussion/decision than true action.

There are definitely some interesting moments (Lestat drinking Jesus’ blood, Lestat drinking period blood), but she does explain her reason for these choices. As if the symbolism wasn’t enough!

I thought I was going to dislike the theology aspect but I actually appreciated my catholic queen really considering life, death, and the afterlife and ultimately deciding on a mix of evolution and religion (for now!).

Surprisingly, I really, really enjoyed this. In a weird and unexpected way.
