I've previously been a huge fan of Chayka and loved The Longing for Less, but I found the argument of Filterworld stale and lacking the insightfulness I've come to expect in his work. I also found it disappointing that in arguing for human curation over algorithmic recommendations, he downplayed the role and downsides of elites controlling culture to the point of nearly ignoring these factors.
