A wonderful story! Very realistic! There are even pages at the end that tell you about the comic writing process, and character sketches! Plus, there are a few anime-styles faces the characters make.

A wonderful graphic novel about middle school friendships, groups, and working together for a common goal. At the end of the book, the author includes early sketches and information about the process of creating graphic novels.

This gorgeous series (only two so far) is perfect for fans of Raina Telgemeier. Chmakova's characters are equally delightful and real, with a touch of over-the-top reactions that readers expect from manga (and mid teens). The conflict between the two clubs plus Peppi's journey to self confidence keep the reader highly engaged. Cant wait to share this series with my students.

This felt like a fairly accurate representation of the middle school experience, and I appreciated the character growth exhibited by several of the characters.

I loved the scavenger hunt for Mr. Raccoon cameos. This is the perfect format for little searches like that, and I wish more graphic novels would utilize it! I think I counted about 25 Mr. Raccoons throughout the book (I forgot exactly how many), but I wish the author said exactly how many she had drawn instead of "at least #". I'm not a fan of never knowing how many there truly are.

Aw, cute/cool! There are some really relatable characters in here, realistic dialogue, and surprisingly tender moments of depth ("...my mom says... there are bad people who hurt others for fun...and there are good people who do it by accident. Like, they make a mistake?"p 128) Interesting how bullying has cropped up in both of my last books, and how differently it's handled. This ones a little rosy-tinted, but I still liked it.
