There were several moments while reading this book that I thought "I don't think I'll end up liking this book" . That the pacing wouldn't be right. That the characters' stories, told one at a time, wouldn't work. Well, I am no fortune teller...I loved this book.

The last 60 pages of the book almost made up for how depressing the rest of it was but man, it was tough to get there.

I really enjoyed this book. It gave me so much to think about. if you knew the day you were going to die, would you live your life differently? so much to contemplate.

I found a couple small sections where there were lots of contemplation about war and religion a little tedious, but overall found this a fast paced and enjoyable read!

How can such intriguing pieces make for an inert yet somehow overwrought and utterly lifeless whole?

Beware annoying anachronisms.

(Sorry, Ms. Benjamin.)
