I read this at a party so I don't feel I gave it the appropriate amount of attention it deserved, but there were some beautiful passages that I highlighted that I will absolutely be revisiting.

I was initially pretty hesitant about this book, but overall I enjoyed it quite a bit. I liked the interconnections between people even though each chapter is self contained. There is a rather strong self-help vibe to the book that I found off-putting, and I really disliked the fat-phobic and judging descriptions of the main librarian. But I did enjoy the relation people had to the books they found. I’m glad I read it.

Sadly, despite the cat on the cover, there were no cats in the library.

I love how books come into our lives at certain times. There were several things in this books that I saw in my own life. This book deals with a phase of uncertainty in one's life, the exhaustion that comes with work, and wanting to be more in one's career. This book brings five characters who are in different stages of their lives and the struggles they are facing. The librarian, Sayuri Komachi, seems to know exactly what each of these people need as they cross paths.

This was so charming and had me tearing up more than once. A similarly feel-good read as Before the Coffee gets Cold by Kawaguchi, but I found the characters more endearing here (however, I am a library worker so I'm definitely biased). I understand the repetitive aspect of the storytelling but I did find a few points to be overdone. The only thing I really disliked was the focus on Ms. Komachi's size. Overall, a must read for those who believe in the magic of libraries and the power of books.
