I usually really like Tsolkias’ writing but this was just way way too nihilistic for me to be able to get any enjoyment from it. I know that a lot of that is my not being able to relate at all to Ari but damn this is a bleak read.

Not a book I’d recommend to other women sick of reading descriptions of the experience of owning male genitals, but probably a more important example of the genre as a queer text, especially for readers who need this sort of thing. Pornographic without eroticism, revels in its own figurative and literal filthiness. A book of crusted bodily fluids, testosterone and cultural agonies.

Meh? A 24 hour time frame where a young man masturbates, takes drugs, has sex, smokes and drinks and talks a shit tonne about his penis. Sure, there’s some social commentary on race, class and sexuality, but I’ve read books that explore those ideas in far more interesting ways.
