Not a book I’d recommend to other women sick of reading descriptions of the experience of owning male genitals, but probably a more important example of the genre as a queer text, especially for readers who need this sort of thing. Pornographic without eroticism, revels in its own figurative and literal filthiness. A book of crusted bodily fluids, testosterone and cultural agonies.

3.5

It's a dark, deeply troubled story about a youth in desperate search of identity, while at the same time proudly/stubbornly renouncing all labels and society's attempts to place him in a category. It's story about otherness at its most painful, both physically and emotionally.
