i’m just gonna list out the causes of death under the spoiler tags because i think the spoiler tags don’t give quite enough of an indicator of what you should expect. brutal book. don’t read it at work like i did.

car crash into lake, bludgeoned by a rock, throat stabbed to death, hit by a truck, poisoned by berries, drowned, beaten to death, fell off a cliff, suffocated, graphically eaten alive by a wild boar, starved to death, and an unclear violent one. also a shit ton of corpse mutilation.

I didn't really care for this book. I read a positive review that stated this was like a dark fairytale with the worst possible outcome, and I agree with that. I read a negative review that stated that 6 year old don't act like they do in this book, and I agree with that as well. 

It's very descriptive with its violence, and *mild spoiler* there is no good outcome. It was very bleak

There may have been things lost in translation here. While I often forget that Tender is the Flesh was translated, I found that quirks of wording pulled me out of this. I think it was the right length although flowing between perspectives made it harder to follow st times.

I enjoyed the writing style and some of the monologues (even though the thought processes didn’t make sense for six year olds), but that’s about where my enjoyment ends. I read the reviews on this and knew what I was getting into, but this really is the most dismal book imaginable.
